Time keeps on ticking, ticking, ticking...

164 days. That’s how long it’s been since the Legion last played a competitive game. We’re going to have to wait another 39 days yet.

Today, a day earlier than previously expected, the USL announced the home openers for all teams.

You may recall that last season the Legion was the odd man out opening weekend and then got further delayed by the season getting short-circuited by COVID. This year won’t be quite as bad, although the home opener won’t be the first week. Only 5 games are scheduled that week, and the Legion will start the 2021 campaign at home Saturday May 1st with a 6:30pm kick off. The opponent will be the Indy Eleven.

However, Birmingham does not serve as the visitor for any other team’s home opener, so at this point we do not know the dates for any other Legion games. And we are far luckier than some others: home openers stretch all the way to June 19th, when league newcomers Oakland Roots SC will host the Sacramento Republic.

Also of note: Memphis 901 is the second last team to play at home. They have to wait until June 15th when Atlanta United 2 show up.
