Birmingham Legion put out a strong starting 11 and pounced upon a well-disciplined Chattanooga Red Wolves side. The Legion finished up preseason in style, with a 4-1 victory last Saturday, April 17th.

Red Wolves came in with a sound game plan and truly put Birmingham Legion to the test last Saturday. Chattanooga held sound possession in the first 15, but Legion’s final third defending was particularly good.

The Legion back line held strong on any Red Wolves foray forward, and their set piece defending was quite good as well. Birmingham Legion set pieces looked good on both sides of the ball, scoring their second goal off of a corner.

As orderly as Chattanooga were in their shape and game plan, they learned first hand that speed can kill. Birmingham were faster all over the pitch most of the night. Beating Red Wolves players to loose balls and drawing fouls made for a choppy 90 minutes, but when Legion were able to break on the counter it was electric. All three other goals came with the Legion running directly at and through the Chattanooga Red Wolves back line.

This match should provide coach Soehn and the boys with plenty to work on, and lots to look forward too in the upcoming regular season May 1st.
