BREAKING NEWS: John Hackworth out as Louisville head coachDanny Cruz appointed interim head coach
In a surprise announcement, Louisville City FC have agreed to part ways with head coach John Hackworth. Hackworth had led the team since August 2018 and had continued the long run of success he inherited. No explanation has been provided by the club, but speculation is rife on LouCity Twitter that he is headed to another head coaching position either in MLS or Europe. That makes little sense, though, as the MLS season is just 2 games in, and the European season is drawing to a close.
At the same time, the club announced that Danny Cruz will take over the reins. Cruz has been with the club as an assistant since 2018, joining soon after Hackworth took over.
This comes after just one game in the USL season, which Louisville won fairly easily 2-0 over Atlanta United 2. However, unless the reasons for the move cause a locker room panic, this should make little difference to the team’s ongoing success. Note also that the so-called Triumvirate that led the team for a few games before Hackworth’s hiring are all still with the club. Of those three, Paolo DelPiccolo scored both goals in this week’s game to earn USL Player of the Week (albeit in a limited schedule of 2 games).
