The Pundit Panel (Week 11): Legion @ Indy Eleven

Can a revitalized Indy squad do some damage?

Maybe the Legion should play every game on the road. After an unexpected rest midweek, the Three Sparks get to spend Independence Day weekend in the Hoosier State. Did they bring the unused fireworks from Wednesday with them?

Prediction
win 2-1

win 2-0

draw2-2

win 1-0
This is a tough one to predict, but I’m going with a tight Legion win.

Indy have played 2 games under interim head coach Max Rogers, both on the road: a 2-1 win over SKC II and a shootout 3-3 draw at Lou City. It’s hard to know how they will perform at home. However, they are clearly leaky at the back, and over the entire season they have struggled to score. Birmingham’s defense is not going to make that any easier, and the attack will be hungry for payback from opening weekend. Goals from Neco and JJ, making up for the red card he got and the PK he didn’t, win it for the good guys.

Birmingham Legion stick with the game plan, and play a full 90 minutes for the first time in forever. The Birmingham back line will need to be on alert, as Indy have proven they can score goals. However, the two prong attack Legion have been deploying should better Indy 11’s defense and bring home three points.
Yet another team in the Central who has a new coach and it truly seems like they’re turning this season around. While Indy always plays Lou City tough, last week’s 3-3 draw really highlighted the Eleven’s strengths as a club, which is working the wings and funneling the ball inside.
With both the 3 Sparks and Indy rolling, it will be a real powerhouse match up this weekend at The Mike and will likely come out with points shared.
Indy got one over on Legion on beach day…I mean, match day 1. Since then, however, it’s gone from bad to worse for them with a patchy run of form (including a loss to Memphis) and the dismissal (or is that “departure by mutual consent”?) of their Head Coach, Martin Rennie. Indy did manage a 3-3 draw with Louisville last time out, but I’m picking Legion to sneak the 3 points in a cagey 1-0 win to get some revenge for that opening game defeat. The scorer? Who else but Neco Brett to make up for the scratched goal against Atlanta in the washout earlier this week.
