Legion signs Diba NwegboMore young talent incoming
The Three Sparks have been busy adding depth and development options this week. After picking up defender Ben Reveno on loan from New England, the team confirmed today thew signing of Acworth, GA product Diba Nwegbo. Diba (who also goes by Patrick, apparently) is a forward who played last season with Vermont Green of League Two, scoring an impressive 9 goals in 12 appearances. Local reports up north indicate he re-signed with them a month or so ago, but it turns out he was on trial with the Legion anyway, logging an assist and a goal against Charlotte FC in preseason.
He is however still in school, at William & Mary (in Williamsburg, VA), but will graduate this spring (he’s 21). His availability may be temporarily limited by that. His playing career at the college is already done, which allows him to sign a fully professional contract. Over that career he racked up 9 goals and 17 assists. Prior to that he played here in Birmingham with Alabama FC for a couple of years, so is already a familiar face.
He is also a dual American-Nigerian national and has been to the Nigerian U-17 team camp.
There are a few highlight videos of him on YouTube, but nothing very recent. At William & Mary (in his junior year at least) he was used at left and right wings as well as center forward, but mostly at left wing. He appears equally comfortable shooting with both feet and scores with his head too at a fairly modest 5’11”.
The Legion looks to be all in on youth this year and that’s a very good thing.
Welcome back to the ‘Ham, Diba!
