Blues News: Keeping Right OnAnother good win
Birmingham City had just one game this week, for the first time in quite a while. It was an important now though: an away matchup Tuesday evening with 4th-place Huddersfield Town. Unsurprisingly the game was not quite as dominant as has become the norm for the Blues and the game ended a 1-0 victory on an incredible long-range shot by left winger Keshi Anderson.
At the same time Wycombe were playing 9th-place Barnsley and went down 0-1 early. They eventually won the game 2-1 after a rd card PK in the 66th minute and the eventual game-winner 5 minutes into second-half stoppage time. That kept Birmingham’s lead at the top of the table to just two points but the Blues still have 2 games in hand and a better goal difference by 1.
Also Tuesday Wrexham blew it big time against 15th-place Stevenage, going down 2 goals in the first 18 minutes and ultimately losing 2-3.
All of that means the gap at the top has widened significantly, with a 6-point margin between the top two and the following pack. That’s not likely to change much tomorrow. The Blues host Rotherham (14th), Wycombe visits Cambridge United (23rd), Wrexham goes to Crawley Town (22nd) and Huddersfield is at Northampton Town (20th). Only the Wrexham game is available for viewing in the US.
Birmingham City has been mostly quiet in the transfer window. This week though they added midfielder Kieran Dowell on loan from Glasgow Rangers. The Blues have several midfield stars out including key player Willum Willumson who could be out a few weeks. They desperately need the help. The only other player the team has picked up is defender Grant Hanley from Norwich City. The Blues also signed another defender, German Phil Neumann, currently with Hannover 96, but he won’t join the team until the summer.
