Game Report: Birmingham City 1-4 Fulham

A rough evening

The Blues had their worst result of the young season as they fell to the Cottagers for the second time in barely a month.

Fulham went up early when Denis Odoi scored in the 10th minute, his first goal in three and a half years. Things got worse for the visitors when Aleksandar Mitrovic converted a penalty kick just before half time. The misery doubled in the second half with goals by Harry Wilson (54th minute) and Mitrovic again (83rd minute). With the brace, Mitrovic is tied for 3rd in EFL Championship scoring.

Three minutes after that, the Blues managed to avoid the shutout when Troy Deeney notched his first Birmingham goal, another penalty kick.

Despite the lopsided scoreline, Birmingham were not truly outplayed. Statistically, they were on a par with Fulham in most categories, and even outshot them 18-15. The problem was primarily playing a relatively high back line against a very fast side that is in almost certainly going to be in the Premier League next season.

The win puts Fulham back on top of the table, and the Blues drop a place to 10th, with the trip to Peterborough this weekend a good chance to improve on that.
