Game Report: Birmingham Legion WFC 1-1 South Georgia Tormenta

A tough physical game

As the first half of the Legion double-header Wednesday, the ladies of WFC took to the Protective Stadium field to face South Georgia Tormenta, reigning W League champions and victims of WFC’s first ever game, losing 1-2 in stoppage time.

They were not to get their revenge – quite. After the titanically physical game in Chattanooga over the weekend, Legion WFC were clearly of a mind to continue the physicality into this game. Consistent pressure through the first half saw the Legion take the after 30 minutes on a strike by Grace Freeman. Grace was forced to redshirt at Ole Miss last year but now appears fully recovered and ready to make an impact.

WFC continued to control the game well into the second half until substitute Alaysia Lane finally found the equalizer after 88 minutes. They were not to mirror the Legion’s earlier victory though, and the game ended 1-1.

Legion WFC’s record is now 2-1-2, good for second in the South Central Division.
