Game Report: Birmingham City 1-1 Nottingham Forest

Late penalty steals 2 points from the Blues

A foul by Lukas Jutkiewicz 7 minutes into second half stoppage time was a heartbreaking end to an otherwise dominant performance by Birmingham City. Forest’s Lewis Grabban converted the spot kick to neutralize Marc Roberts’ 49th minute score.

Ironically, the foul in the box was by the team’s striker, and the goal by a centerback. Such is soccer sometimes.

The Blues had pummeled the Forest goal all game, racking up 18 shots to just 4. They looked certain to cruise to victory until the late error.

Nevertheless, Birmingham is getting ever closer to avoiding the drop. On 49 points they are now clear of Wycombe Wanderers and Sheffield Wednesday, leaving only one relegation spot to avoid. They can do that with a win at Derby County on Saturday. That game will be streamed live on ESPN+ starting at 8:55am Central.
